LEIGH STEPHENS McCARTHY is a native of California and grew up in Boulder, Colorado. She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Colorado and earned an M.S. in mathematics from the University of Illinois. Before returning to school to obtain her law degree, Leigh taught mathematics and for 11 years wrote a regular op-ed column for the Bangor Daily News. She earned her J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law, summa cum laude, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Maine Law Review. For eight years Leigh served by appointment of the Governor as a member of the Maine Board of Bar Examiners, which she chaired in 2006 and 2007. She is a member of the United States District of Maine Local Rules Advisory Committee. She is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. Prior to joining Rudman & Winchell she served as Law Clerk for Justice Paul L. Rudman of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court.
